The asymmetric design is truly amazing! If you don’t have a lot of time to sew and you love interesting clothes then this is the jacket or long vest pattern for you.
The jacket (or vest) is made from one piece of fabric if the fabric is wide. For narrower fabric you will have a center back seam. You cut the center front opening. Then the fabric is folded in half (shoulders) thin cut in at the sizes to make the sleeves. You sew sleeves and fold the from fabric around to the back and sew or tie the ends together. This part of the jacket rests on the hips. The folded back pieces can be left under the back of the jacket or worn outside the back piece. This will depend on the drape of the fabric and/or your individual figure. There are no side seams. There is just a small tuck at each underarm. The side pieces will hang long and the back hangs straight.
To make the vest you leave off the sleeves and secure the side front pieces by stitching; or just secure it with a button for detailing.
The straight collar band is added and can be left plain or you have the option to use the piecing ideas which include prairie points or strip piecing. Instructions are included. There is also a patch pocket for necessities.
Pick a great fabric and schedule two hours in your sewing room. This garment is comfortable, graceful, timeless. It could go to the opera, office or on vacation. It could also be the jacket you throw on just to run errands. Pick a fabric that is lightweight for breezy evenings or something heavier for a trip in the snow.
