If you sew, then you always end up with a lot of small pieces of fabric that are not big enough to do much with ! I designed this pattern for all you ladies. Get out your scrap bag and let’s see what you can create. This wrap skirt is made from 13 straight pieces of fabric ranging from 1/4 to 5/8 yards each. The strips are cut and sewn on the STRAIGHT of grain. The interesting thing about this design is when you sew on the waist band, the skirt hangs on the bias. This gives the skirt great movement and the strips change directions and wrap around your body at angles. A very interesting design that is flattering to most figures regardless of your size. People do look at details and this skirt is intriguing. The hem is irregular, hanging longer in back adding illusion and visual movement. If you prefer, you can trim the hem and make it more even. This is a perfect skirt for summer. Skirts are more comfortable to wear than pants in hot humid summer weather. If you like to dance, then think of this skirt and how it will move. For colder weather, imagine it made from soft wools worn with a warm turtleneck sweater, a pretty scarf and boots. For a “dressy” occasion, make it out of silky fabrics in an assortment of textures and weaves ALL in one color. I did it in blacks and it was stunning. There are so many possibilities from casual to elegant.
The vest has a loose boxy shape and doesn’t hug your body. The irregular hem draws the eye to angles and creates a soft illusion. People are surprised that it looks so good on all shapes regardless of size. However, you do have the option to cut it longer if you prefer. Think about all the different kinds of embellishing you could use. It can be double breasted and buttoned or left to waterfall down the front. |
